The point of theology—I will die on this hill—is to help us become more like Jesus.

If the point of theology is to help us become more like Jesus, then I declare the Jackass Rule: “If your theology doesn’t make you less of a jackass, then your theology is worthless.”

(Yes, Jesus & Paul BOTH use words that were the equivalent of “jackass” and worse.)

Don’t go shouting “Jesus & the money changers!” “Jesus & the money changers!” to excuse self-righteous behavior. When we do that, we show by our behavior that we don’t understand that story.
