If I planted a church (which—again—will never happen), what would I do to help my people be mature in their beliefs?
I would use the Apostles’ Creed as a regular part of worship.
I would make it clear that the Bible, not the creed , is the BASIS of our theology. But the creed is a framework for organized thinking about theology.
(Rationale: I see so many churches where people have no idea what they believe beyond the slogans & culture war tropes.)
And we would feature hymns & songs in worship with theological depth. Too much of today’s worship is unbalanced toward the emotional & relational.
Don’t get me wrong: I LOVE emotional & relational worship. But if that’s all there is, if worship doesn’t engage the intellect, it’s like living on bread alone. Unbalanced.
