In my last update, I told you that the children were on the move. They have moved to safety, but not much farther. My understanding, at last update, is that they are at the Ukrainian - Hungarian border. The current holdup is getting Ukrainian social services to agree to release the children to leave that country, … Continue reading Lessons in Bureaucracy

The Children Are on the Way
(Praise God.) If you've followed the updates, you know that we have been anxiously waiting for a group of kids from a children's home near Kyiv to make their way here. For more than a week, they have been surrounded by Russian soldiers and tanks, firing at everything that moves. They have been waiting for … Continue reading The Children Are on the Way
Zagreb Update, Monday Morning (14 March)
Updates on the drone strike and Ukrainian refugees. URGENT PRAYER UPDATE AT BOTTOM. Zagreb WAS hit by an armed drone the other night. (Initial reports did not mention a bomb, so I initially said the drone was not armed.) The drone appears to have been Russian, not Ukrainian. It was fired from somewhere in Ukraine, however. It … Continue reading Zagreb Update, Monday Morning (14 March)
Apparently …
Apparently, Zagreb was hit the other night by a Soviet-era reconnaissance (unarmed) drone, fired from in Ukraine through Hungary to Croatia. (The fact that the drone struck next door to a dormitory complex holding thousands of university students makes me suspicious that this STILL may be a prank.) https://www.reuters.com/world/europe/soviet-era-drone-believed-ukraine-crashes-croatia-zagreb-says-2022-03-11/
Refugee Update, Sunday morning 13 March
I have only a little information on the people coming here from Ukraine, but I wanted to get this to you while it's still Saturday night (sort of) in the States. Your generous donations are doing two things right now in Zagreb. 1. Steve Taliaferro has longstanding connections with a children's home in Ukraine. The … Continue reading Refugee Update, Sunday morning 13 March
Refugee Update from 8 March
NOTE: this update is two days old. Pozdrav, everyone. I want to update you on the situation here. Today (Tuesday, 8 March) the number of refugees leaving Ukraine crossed two million. Currently there are over 2,000 Ukrainian refugees in Zagreb. Last week, the Red Cross and Croatian government projected that we would see upwards of 20,000 … Continue reading Refugee Update from 8 March
How to lose your bags (without losing your mind)
Here is a piece of universal wisdom: when you fly, be prepared for delayed luggage. I have probably written this post before, maybe even published it here. But it bears repeating, because I keep having to learn the lesson. If there's one thing I'm expert at, it's lost luggage on international flights. (I have a … Continue reading How to lose your bags (without losing your mind)
“Because We Can.”
Have you read what Peloton has done to their customers? If you bought a Peloton treadmill, at a cost of about $4,000, you can no longer use that treadmill for ANYTHING if you don't also buy a $40/month subscription to the Peloton Treadmill Community. You heard me right. Peloton is using the treadmill's connectivity to … Continue reading “Because We Can.”
Sully on CRT: Don’t Ban It, Expose It
Here is Andrew Sullivan's latest on how sane America should respond to CRT. Keep in mind that he is British, so "liberal" for him = what we used to think of as "conservative" or "libertarian". Also, look out for that British snark. My own opinion re. CRT is that it's more Chicken Little than Mark … Continue reading Sully on CRT: Don’t Ban It, Expose It
